Why Choose This Trip?

Big Sky Resort is considered one of the of top five resorts in North America for skiable acres and vertical drop. It is also known for its minimal lift wait times due to its advanced lift system. I have been to Big Sky multiple times and have yet to experience a lift line wait greater than 5 minutes. It is personally my favorite place to ski in North America. Although the highest peak is 11,166 feet, our lodging is located at the base at 7500 feet, so acclimation to the altitude can be much easier. Big Sky is affiliated with the IKON pass, so if you have one, lift tickets are one less worry.

For non-skiers there are many fun winter activities to enjoy. TSC and I are both looking into organizing a snowmobiling tour of Yellowstone Park as an optional adventure. If that becomes a reality, you can hang with exotic wild animals and check out the amazing geysers and gorgeous pools all while experiencing the thrill of snowmobiling!

We are looking to add an optional excursion on Wednesday to West Yellowstone for the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center where you can view both from inside or outside.  Check out all this amazing center has to offer at https://www.grizzlydiscoveryctr.org/

Our home for the week, The Huntley Lodge, includes a fabulous daily breakfast buffet and free parking! Since this is a TSC trip, you will experience fantastic parties (some with dancing) some included dinners and all of the TSC discounts, fun and excitement of meeting other Texas ski club participants! Lastly, you will have one of SCSC’s most experienced trip coordinators attending to every detail to make Big Sky an unforgettable experience!

IMPORTANT LIFT TICKET INFORMATION NEEDING IMMEDIATE ATTENTION AT SIGN-UP

The TSC rates are much higher than usual.   I strongly recommend you purchase a Freestyle Pass directly  from Big Sky for MUCH less than the TSC rates which are detailed under the lift ticket section if you do not have an Ikon Pass. The Freestyle passes will be sold at the current rates only until the first of September, so don’t delay!  Below is the link to purchase these packages:
https://bigskyresort.com/season-pass/freestyle.

Alternatively if you are skiing more than one Ikon Pass area, it pays to go to the Sports America link below and you will earn 6.5% of the revenue as a discount off the trip. These prices will also go up the first part of September. Until then this link offers discounted rates for full Ikon Passes & Ikon Base Pass products.

Accommodations

We are staying at a SCSC favorite, the Huntley Lodge, which is located at the Big Sky mountain base at only 7500 feet.  Depending on snow conditions, and what lift you are starting on, it is often ski-in-ski out from some hotel rooms.  The daily breakfast is one of the best around and a fantastic place to meet up to find someone to ski with that day.  Since most of the participants come to breakfast, you will get to know each other much more quickly, perfect for new club members.

The Huntley has 3 places to dine on property, including Chet’s (often with live music and dancing), Mocha, and the Huntley Dining Room.  Conveniently, both the TSC welcome party and the farewell party will be in the Huntley.   Usually many après’ ski events are also at Chet’s in the Huntley.    For your convenience, they have complimentary ski valet and free rental delivery from Big Sky Sports Rentals.   The Solace Spa is the perfect place to soothe those aching muscles and unwind after a hard day of skiing or for non-skiers to enjoy a pampered day. They have free parking and bellmen provide free transportation (tips only) to local venues for dinner, shopping, etc.  All rooms include a mini-fridge and a Kuerig coffee pot with free coffee pods and daily light room maid service.  There is a communal microwave down each hall to share.  Roundtrip baggage handling is also included.
Please note, it is responsibility of the participant to identify a qualified roommate.  I am happy to help facilitate the process if needed, but you still must communicate well ahead of the trip to avoid any conflicts.  I plan to organize a pre-trip party in November so participants can meet, socialize and make final payment in person if needed.   However, if a roommate is not identified prior to the trip cancellation date, the participant has the option to pay for a single supplement if available or cancel less club cancellation fee before final payment.
Transportation

If you choose the full package, we are flying United Airlines, non-stop to Bozeman with the following schedule subject to change:

Jan 11 UA1105  IAH/BZN 10:15 a.m./1:04 p.m.
Jan 18 UA1292 BZN/IAH 2:11 p.m./6:39 p.m.

Ground Transfers included is via a private charter bus with a 30-minute included grocery pick up (pre-orders only).  If you are not on our flight, you must land at the same time, or prior to, our projected flight arrival to ride our bus to Big Sky.  To catch our ride back, your flight should be after or at about the same time as our return flight.  Land packages include bus transportation only on our scheduled bus.  If your flights don’t correspond, you will need to arrange other ground transportation at your own cost.

Big Sky Resort Mountain Statistics

• Skiable terrain: 5,850 acres
• Vertical drop: 4,350 ft
• Summit elevation: 11,166 ft

More Than Just Skiing

The Texas Ski Council is in the process of arranging all the extra fun events for the week. We do know there will be a welcome party with heavy appetizers and one drink and a final dinner buffet with one drink and DJ entertainment and dancing.  We are also investigating an optional day of Yellowstone snowmobiling.  You can experience the wildlife Montana has to offer “up close and personal” during that excursion.  I have personally viewed two male buffaloes clashing horns from 20 feet away and a bald eagle flying above us and throughout our return to Big Sky.   Amazing!

You will also be amazed at the several dinner spots with wild game entrée’s you have probably never seen, much less tasted!  Our hotel bell staff will take you to and from your dinner destinations free (tips only.)  Don’t want to venture out?  There are 3 dining options in the Huntley that will satisfy your hunger and thirst!

There is a heated pool, two hot tubs, the Huntley Health Club and the Solace Spa for those aching muscles!

If you’d like you can also take part in ice skating, dog sledding, snowshoeing and dinner sleighrides. There is great Nordic skiing right there that I will utilize for a day or 2 and would love for a group to join me! I will plan a fun SCSC club party as well.

Rentals & Ski School

The Texas Ski Council arranges great ski/board rental prices and group lessons which I will update in the online article as soon as those prices are released.

Lift Tickets

Our Big Sky TSC Lift Ticket rates are as follows:

3 day - Adult $502         Senior 70+ $397

The freestyle passes are still available from Big Sky directly for MUCH less than the above TSC rates. I encourage anyone without an Ikon Pass to buy those Freestyle passes.  The Freestyle passes will be sold at the current rates only until the first few days of September, so don’t delay!  For example, the 3 day pass for an adult is only $370 compare to $502!
https://bigskyresort.com/season-pass/freestyle.
